Today during some preparations outside I had a little goose bump moment when I noted the first swarm of what seemed like Snow Petrels arriving back at SANAE. They usually visit during Summer to breed. I hope they are right in that the winds of September is something of the past and that Spring is here. It was a nice reminder that despite being alone on the ice for this long there is still life out there.
Ek kan my indink hoe dit moes gevoel het om vir die eerste keer in maande weer 'ander' lewe te sien. Nog 'n onvergeetlike en lewens-verykende gebeurtenis om te koester.
ReplyDeleteHey, dude! Never alone man, never alone! We talk of you often, sometimes wishing to just sit with you in your space to experience the rhythm that you have established in order to live where you are. A Goose bump in response to becoming aware of change is something I long for when stuff becomes hectic, worldly stuff. What a blessing to have a season change be announced by the arrival of Snow Petrels! Sure they know better not to arrive prematurely....it must be spring!!!! Enjoy the beauty!
ReplyDeleteI've just spent quite a while reading all your blogs - don't know how I missed out on knowing about them till now. You have written so well about the highs and lows of your experiences Johan. Enjoy your last months on the icy continent. You are all so much braver than most of us will ever be! Jane Foote
